Psychadelic Assisted Therapy
Psychedelic Therapy (aka Psychedelic Assisted Psychotherapy) is a type of practice, which has its roots in Indigenous Medicine, that involves ingesting a psychedelic substance as part of the therapeutic process.
In this work, we would combine the use of a psychedelic substance, in this case a Ketamine lozenge in combination with our somatic therapy sessions.
Ketamine is used to create a mood altering and consciousness expanding state, that sometimes helps people to feel "far from" your body, facilitate a closer connection to yourself and to nature/universe.
What is Ketamine Assisted Therapy and its benefits?
Ketamine Assisted Therapy is the use of Ketamine, a safe, legal medication prescribed off-label to treat a variety of mental health diagnoses including depression, anxiety and PTSD. It has a fast acting antidepressant and mood enhancing effect which can begin to take into affect minutes after treatment and last for several days/weeks after.
Ketamine is traditionally used as an surgical anesthetic (for kids all the way up to older populations), but is used as an off label way to treat a garden variety of mental health disorders
Ketamine works by interacting with the brain's receptors, kind of like a switch. It helps create new connections between brain cells and improve your mood. Think of it like giving your brain a little boost to feel better. Ketamine has been found to making the brain more adaptable and open to learning new patterns or things.
Ketamine comes in many forms. It can be given through an IV (intravenous), IM (through the muscle via an injection) or orally (through a lozenge).
I only work with folx using an oral intake of Ketamine prescribed through Journey Clinical.

-
Receive 2 doses of ketamine via UPS mail within a week or two.
-
Schedule 1-3 sessions to prepare for ketamine dosing. This is where we will not be using any ketamine, but will spend some time going through your family history, background, intentions, expectations and be educated about the process around dosage.
-
a typical ketamine dosing session lasts between 2-3 hours and is fully remotely via Telehealth. In person sessions (Beacon Hill, Seattle) will be an option, but provided on a case by case basis. During the session, you will administer the ketamine lozenge yourself and will be in a comfortable reclining position on your bed or couch, with an eye mask and listening to calming music. A lot of people prefer to go internal and may find themselves more quiet. I will be present the entire time to offer support, as needed.
-
these sessions happen 24-72 hours after your dosing sessions. We will spend time reviewing any memories, images, thoughts and insights that came up during your dosing. And spend time preparing for your next dosage session.
-
after our first dosage session, the ketamine prescriber schedules regular follow ups with you to monitor outcomes and prescribe refills if needed.
